Winning ways with print

Beacon Press has received the Queen's Award for Enterprise for outstanding commitment in sustainable development. It's the latest in a long line of awards for environmental best practice, bringing our combined total to 26. These include the United Nations and International Chamber of Commerce Environmental Awards and the Business in the Community Environmental Excellence Award.

Our success is due to a committed, forward thinking and respectful approach to the environment. We were the 5th UK company to be registered to ISO 14001 and the 11th to be registered to EMAS (The Eco Management and Audit Scheme).

Our initiatives include:

	63% reduction in water consumption since 1995
	Reduction of industrial alcohol used in the printing process
	100% use of vegetable based inks
	The recycling of 88% of all our dry waste
	Recycling 95% of our press cleaning solvents
	100% reliance on electricity from renewable sources
	- No harmful isopropyl alcohol (IPA) used in the printing process
	A Biodiversity policy
